Direct marketing is a marketing tactic based on advertising directed to the specified consumer. It is channel agnostic, however is often associated with telemarketing, SMS message advertising, direct mailing and e-mail marketing campaigns.
In general direct marketing may be distinguished by:
- extensive use of databases of consumers
- tendency to track efficiency of the campaigns
- embedding call to action in the message (some practicioners use even an alternative name for this tactic: Direct Response Advertising)
